Before requesting warranty service, reviewing our frequently asked questions may help you resolve the issue.

A short delay can be normal. Many Midea air conditioners include compressor protection that prevents the system from restarting immediately after it is switched off or power is restored.

In heating mode, the anti-cold air blow function delays indoor fan operation until the coil temperature rises above 24°C. This prevents cold air from blowing into the room while the coil warms up. This delay is normal. Allow several minutes for the system to restart. If it still does not start, check the controller settings, power supply and any error codes displayed.

If your multi-split system takes longer than expected to start and no error code is displayed, the indoor unit’s room temperature sensor may be detecting a temperature higher than the actual room temperature.

During heating standby, the electronic expansion valve (EEV) may remain slightly open to help balance refrigerant pressure. When another indoor unit is operating, a small amount of warm refrigerant can flow through the standby unit, warming its coil and affecting the nearby room temperature sensor. The system may then detect no demand for heating, delaying startup.

If your model supports Follow Me, enabling this function may help. Follow Me uses the temperature sensor in the remote controller to measure the temperature around you. Place the remote away from direct sunlight and other heat sources so it can provide a more representative room temperature reading.

Midea inverter systems can reduce compressor speed rather than switch off completely once the set temperature is reached. This helps maintain a more consistent room temperature and reduces frequent restarts.

Depending on the model and operating conditions, the compressor may continue running until the indoor temperature reaches approximately 3°C above the set temperature in heating mode or 3°C below it in cooling mode.

If the room becomes noticeably warmer or cooler than expected, check whether your system supports Follow Me. This feature uses the temperature sensor in a compatible remote or wired controller to help the system regulate the temperature where the controller is located. Keep the controller away from direct sunlight, draughts and other heat sources for a more representative reading.

For split systems, when Follow Me mode is enabled, the remote controller sends a temperature signal to the indoor unit every 7 minutes. If the remote controller is too far away or the signal is obstructed, the indoor unit may not receive it within this period.

The unit will then revert to its built-in room temperature sensor. The difference between the two sensor readings may cause unexpected changes in heating or cooling operation.

Poor heating or cooling performance can have several causes, including dirty indoor filters, a dirty outdoor coil or incorrect refrigerant levels.

Check that the indoor filters and outdoor coil are clean before arranging a warranty service call. For a newly installed system, contact your installer or a qualified service technician to assess the installation and check the refrigerant levels.

This can be normal during heating. At startup, the louvre and indoor fan operate automatically as part of the unit’s heating sequence.

The indoor fan may delay starting, slow down or stop temporarily while the indoor coil warms up, during defrost, or when the room is close to the set temperature. This helps prevent an uncomfortable blast of cool air.

In cold, humid weather, frost can build up on the outdoor coil. The system may automatically enter defrost mode, temporarily pausing normal heating to remove the frost.

A defrost cycle may take 10–15 minutes. Allow the cycle to finish without switching off the unit or changing modes. Heating should resume automatically once defrost is complete.

The controller’s set temperature is a target temperature. Temperatures may vary throughout the room due to sensor location, room size, airflow, sunlight, open doors, insulation, ceiling height and zoning. Some models also offer temperature compensation settings.

When using the SmartHome app, the displayed room temperature comes from either the remote controller’s sensor or the indoor unit’s sensor, depending on the model and whether Follow Me mode is active.

Note: For VRF systems, if the smart home app is used the room temperature is always detected by the indoor unit’s sensor.

The set temperature is the desired room temperature, not the supply-air temperature. The unit automatically changes its supply-air temperature and airflow according to room load, operating mode and compressor capacity.

Turn the Midea system off if water may damage property or reach electrics. Common causes include a blocked or incorrectly installed drain, dirty filter or coil, damaged drain pan, failed condensate pump or icing. Contact the original installer or a qualified service technician.

During cooling operation, low refrigerant can cause the indoor coil to become too cold and ice up. As the ice melts, water droplets may be carried by the airflow and blown out through the air outlet.

Low refrigerant is one possible cause. Restricted airflow from dirty filters or a dirty coil can also cause icing, so the cause should be checked before adding refrigerant.

Water may leak through the wall if the drainpipe is blocked, the drain connection is loose, or the indoor unit is not installed level. These issues can prevent condensation from draining correctly, causing water to overflow or leak onto the wall.

Steam or mist can be normal during or immediately after defrosting. The unit is melting frost from the outdoor heat exchanger, and the resulting moisture can appear as vapour. If you see smoke, smell burning, or hear abnormal electrical noises, switch the system off and arrange service.

Condensation and melted frost can drain from the outdoor unit during heating and defrost. This is normally expected. The installation should allow the water to drain safely without creating a slip hazard, blockage or nuisance.

The Athena indoor unit features a louvre designed for 180° rotation. During heating, it directs warm air downwards to help distribute warmth evenly. As warm air naturally rises, this helps prevent heat from collecting near the ceiling and keeps the room comfortable.

If you prefer forward airflow, update the unit to the latest firmware through the Smart Home app, then select louvre angle 1 during heating. If the airflow issue persists after the update, please contact Midea Technical Support for further assistance.

Manually adjusting the louvre can move it out of alignment and may damage the louvre or its stepper motor. Always use the remote control or app to adjust its position.

To reset the louvre, switch off the power at the main isolator or circuit breaker, wait a couple of minutes, then restore power. The unit will perform a self-check to reset the louvre to the correct position.

If the louvre still does not close fully, please arrange a warranty service call for a technician to inspect the unit.

Auto mode follows the control logic of the specific model. Operation may depend on several factors, including room temperature, the set temperature and outdoor ambient temperature.

For more consistent heating or cooling, we recommend selecting HEAT or COOL directly instead of using Auto mode. This gives you control over the operating mode and helps the unit maintain your preferred comfort level.

Dry mode is designed mainly to reduce humidity while providing some cooling. It is useful on mild, humid days when the room feels sticky but does not need strong cooling. Fan speed and temperature adjustments may be limited, depending on the model.

Dry mode may continue cooling as it removes moisture, which can overcool the room and cause discomfort. If the room becomes too cold, switch to COOL mode and select a comfortable temperature.

Sleep mode is intended for overnight comfort and energy saving. Depending on the model, it may gradually adjust the temperature, reduce fan noise, dim displays or modify operating behaviour over several hours.

Turbo mode requests rapid heating or cooling by operating at high capacity for a limited period. It can increase noise and power use while active and may not be available in every mode or on every model.

On compatible controllers, Follow Me or iFeel uses the temperature sensor in the remote/controller as a reference instead of relying only on the indoor unit sensor. Keep the controller in a representative location and do not cover it or leave it in direct sun.

The button combination varies by controller. Check the controller manual for your exact model. Do not use a button sequence from a different controller, as some combinations change installer settings.

Many high-wall models have an LED, DISPLAY or LIGHT function on the remote. Pressing it can toggle the indoor display. Availability varies by model; refer to the user manual if your remote does not show this function.

Some operating sounds are normal. Plastic panels may make slight cracking noises as they expand and contract with temperature changes, relays may click, and refrigerant may produce flowing or hissing sounds.

For VRF systems, slight cracking and refrigerant flow noises can also be normal during operation. However, new or unusually loud grinding, metallic noises, repeated banging or severe vibration should be checked by a technician.

Some refrigerant flow noise is normal during operation. However, unusual or persistent hissing may indicate low refrigerant levels, a restriction in the copper piping or branch box, or incorrect pipe sizing or length. Please arrange for a qualified service technician to inspect your system and identify the cause.
